Quote

"Nothing strengthens authority so much as silence." Leonardo da Vinci

This quote was included in a book I was reading and it has been lingering in my consciousness for a couple of weeks.

There must have been George W's in Leonard's time, too.

Passing Fancy

The sun is actually shining in Michigan today! Whoo-hoo!

On my way home from work today, I passed a child (about 4 years old) making a snow angel in his front yard. My thought: "When was the last time I made a snow angel...in fact, when was the last time I did anything that put that 'god, life is good!' smile on my face?"

NOTE TO SELF: You're only on this ball of mud for a short time.....go out and have SOME FUN!

Sub Zero in MI

Friday afternoon while I was at work, I had a curious encounter on the elevator. We have many contractors onsite who are from India. I stepped on the elevator and struck up a conversation with a young man. He asked how my drive to work had been. It really wasn't a bad drive (the usual ice, snow and wind) so I couldn't complain.

Evidently, he was not expecting that response. (Imagine a lilting Indian accent). "You people here are CRAZY! I mean it! You live here by CHOICE! You're crazy! Never, never would I choose to live here!" :-)

How do I explain the joy of hearing 200 birds snuttering in my blue spruce on a sub-zero winter day?
Or my search in the fall for just the right branch to lay by my birdfeeders? Or watching the wide variety of birds (cardinals, blue jays, woodpeckers, nuthatches, gold finches, house finches, grackles, juncos, starlings, mourning doves and our friendly neighborhood Coopers Hawk).

Or that first great spring day when you know the worst is over and the sun will shine again for MONTHS!

Guess I would miss these ever changing seasons!
